2004 - 2005 Indoor Hockey Info!

Okay girls I know you all haven’t thought about indoor at all yet but we made a decision to purchase new spiffy uniforms and we will need to order them in late August!  That also means we must finalize our teams and who is on them by then too!    We will be ordering new Warrior Uniforms like we previewed last year.  The cost will be aprox $100 and include a skirt, and 2 different shirts, and black socks.  You need to begin to raise that money or make your parents aware of the costs.  That will be due at the time we order your uniform.  As an estimate of cost..... it will cost each player aprox $35 a League and $35 for each tournament we go to, not counting food or lodging. We plan for you to raise this money with our fundraisers from throughout the year or you can just write a check to Delaware Stingers if you want.  You must be a member of USFHA to play in tournaments.

That said, we will have a U14 age team, a U16 age Team, and U19 age team.  You must be under that age as of January 1, 2005 .

If you haven’t played indoor with us before and you would like to I need your age group and name and all. If you played last year and want to again this year I need to know that too! And what age group you would be in!  We play in the Dover League on Sundays, beginning in late December and going to late February.  Games are any time from 9am to like 7pm , one game a week.  We will play several tournaments too.  Last year we played at Pottstown , Ursinus College , Cape , and Striker’s in Md.   We will be trying to qualify our teams for Nationals!

That said.  Mark your calendars now for Capes Indoor tournaments:

Summer League Results

5 wins 6 losses 1 tie

The stingers fell to Vikings1  6-0 in our opening game of the season!  Despite the loss  we played pretty well and held them  2-0 in the first half.  We will get a rematch in the last game of the season .. so we can see if we improved! LOL

Our Second game which was against Vikings2 was called off after along drive to Dover and sitting around waiting to see if it stormed!  It was called of eventually!  Bummer!  Not sure of the make up date yet!

We played really well against Polytech and came away with a 4-0 victory!  Scoring  for us was Ashely McCarthy, Jennifer Short, and Olivia Prestivac.  Sarah and Stacey had a score which it was hard to see who actually scored it but I believe they agreed that Sarah scored on Stacey's assist!  or at least I hope that is what they said! LOL  Everyone..... and i mean everyone...... played really well!  Leah had a great game at goalie in the second half!

Everyone played great as we defeated CR2 4-0.  Scoring for the Stingers were: Olivia, Sarah, Caroline, and Rebecca!  Claire turned in a good game as Goalie.  Leslie, Stacey, and Chelsea all played great games too!  Over all we did really well!  Nice game girls!  Rounding out the team  against CR2 was Ashley, Jena, Jerilyn, Emily, and
Lori!  great game Girls!

Hey hey.....  we are 3-1 now with a 5-2 win over Lake2!!  Way to go girls!!  You all played great and did a good job hanging in there since we didn't have any subs!  Sarah had a great game and lead us in scoring with 3 goals!  Becca and Molly each had a goal!  Caroline had 2 assists too! :-)  Stacey,  Emily, and Leslie also did a great job in the mid field!  Our backs were Kyrra, Lori, Lizzie who played well to  with Nicole taking care of the Goalie duty!  Great job girls!!  Your looking good!!  :-)

We played a not so good game against Milford and came up just a lil short!  Sarah scored our goal in a 2-1 loss. Nuff said about this game!

We played much, much better against Dover and  still we came up a lil short as Dover took the win.. 3-1.  Monika scored our lone goal and everyone played pretty darn good!

We got back on the winning track with a 3-1 win over Smyrna!  Olivia, Monika, and  Sarah scored a goal each and Caroline had a zillion assists! :-)  Everyone played well, and Nicole and Leah shared the Goalie duties! Kyrra and Lizzie played really well!  Everyone made me proud! :-)  Love you girls!! :-)

We ended up with Cape2 tying us 1-1.  Stacey and Leslie were in charge that game and you all did a great  job!  Olivia scored on an assist from Monika!

CR1 took it to us and I lost track of the score!  We hopefully learned allot of stuff and can use the loss to improve!  We played a much better 2nd half.

We played a tough Lake team and came away with a 6-1 loss.  Caroline scored our lone goal and Claire took care of the goal keeping duties.  Most of lakes goals came on extremely hard to make shots and we played very well as a group!  Much better than against CR.

We got  got back on the winning track with at 7-2 win over Dover2.  We played the entire game as a 7 vs. 7 and Nicole played as our goal keeper.  Stacey  and Leslie jumped into the scoring column with 1 goal each.   Sarah scored 1 goal as well.  Caroline and Monika each scored 2 goals in the win.  Everyone played really well in the 7 vs. 7 game!  Great game girls!

We played a great game against the same cape team we played game 1.  We played hard and looked good but we did fall to them 2-0.  everyone played really  well and you all really improved all season!

Beach Bash News

The Delaware Stingers played in the "Beach Bash" Field Hockey tournament held this past weekend in Rehoboth. Sports are:

"Sport is a metaphor for life. I've learned a lot about myself during the
long hours of practice...I learned you can give 110%, set goals and still
not reach them. I've learned sometimes when the pain is intolerable, you
have to swallow your pride, grit your teeth, silence the tears, and run.
I've learned to stick with it, and keep trying, long after everyone else has
abandoned the cause. I've learned there are no failures, only temporary
setbacks. I've learned that the perfect team often loses, and occasionally
the underdog triumphs. I've learned that teammates have an invisible bond
with each other, a bond that can never be broken, a bond of dedication,
love, and respect."

Sponsorship Programs

The Delaware Stingers now has a tax I D number and a Bank account!!  All checks should be made payable to "Delaware Stingers" in the Future!  With that said.... We are also looking for sponsors.  We  have several major purchases to be made:

Goalie Equipment

Other Player protection Equipment,

Travel Uniforms,

Entry fees for  the many tournaments we attend. (both Indoor and Outdoor)

Educational Camps, and Clinics for players and coaches.

A place for our indoor Team to practice and play on in the winter.

An actual practice and play field including: land preparation, planting grass, keeping up the field, (including irrigation), bleachers and a second set of Goal cages. (As you may or may not know there is no field available to play on in the Woodbridge school district in the spring or summer.  The Woodbridge Jr High team basically practiced in someone's back yard last year during their season!)  I am willing to donate land just outside of Bridgeville off of my family farm for the fields to be set on.

We have several ways for you or your business to help support Stingers Field Hockey, Girls Sports, and all the great kids in our area!
